The Future of the X-Men Franchise

08 Dec 2009

The Future of X-Men Franchise - Empire online reports on the current state of the X-Men movie world including updates on the spinoffs. Out of them all it looks like Deadpool and Wolverine 2 are the ones that most likely will be made into movies anytime soon. Clips taken from Empire Online article.

Wolverine 2

"That's the furthest along of all the X-Men projects on the boil. It's actually the story we wanted to use for the first Wolverine film, but [Fox head honcho] Tom Rothman preferred to set the character up with an origin story first. This movie will really focus on the relationship between Wolverine and Mariko, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord, and what happens to him in Japan. We're very fortunate to have a story mostly outlined for us [from the comic book arc co-written by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller]. And we wanted an A+ writer, so we want to Chris McQuarrie (Valkyrie, The Usual Suspects). He came in and has tightened the story and got really immersed in the whole thing - he's in Japan in his head!”

X-Men : First Class

Right now the script is not done -we're not where we want to be yet. We have to be careful that we don't tread on familiar territory, that people don't say, "Oh, I've seen that, been there." But (screenwriter) Josh Schwartz has a great young pulse and he's doing an amazing job bringing the characters to life. We want to make this a franchise, following these kids at the school, so the casting of the child actors will be all-important."

"I want to ignore the version of Deadpool that we saw in Wolverine and just start over again. Reboot it. Because this guy talks, obviously, and to muzzle him would be insane. I don't see it as a problem that Ryan [Reynolds] is also playing Green Lantern. I mean, look at Harrison Ford - he was in Stars Wars and Indiana Jones at the same time and everyone was fine with that. Green Lantern could not be more different to Wade Wilson. Green Lantern is a guy who finds a ring and is thrust into this world, much like Spider-Man. Wade Wilson is a guy who unfortunately gets cancer, and volunteers for a test that will give him healing powers. He is a bad ass, a wise-cracking mercenary, who will go out and kill anyone for money. But the thing about him is that, underneath it all, and he wouldn't want you to know this, sometimes he's not such a bad ass after all. Sometimes he does the right thing.

David Goyer has written a brilliant script. It starts in the concentration camps and has Magneto coming out of there. But you know, I'm not sure that film is going to be made. The studio has a wealth of potential stories, and they have to stand back and decide which ones to make. And Magneto, I think, is at the back of the queue. Maybe it'll get made in five years - who knows? I can tell you that Ian McKellen won't be playing the character the whole....

Thor (2011)

08 Dec 2009

By Odin's beard  Marvel comics god of thunder comes to the big screen in 2011. Staring Chris Hemsworth as the hammer swirling , lightning throwing , golden haired god Thor , Tom Hiddleston as the evil god of tricks Loki , and Natelie Portman as Jane Foster. The movies plot summary at IMBD is a little more then the one at Marvels own site for the picture.

Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: THOR. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

And for all you comic movie fanatics that can not get enough of your favorite characters coming to life on the big screen in big budget films. This movie is another one of those pictures that is a lead in for the upcoming Avenger movie that will have the same actor and character take part in the multi superhero extravaganza , that also has the Hulk , Iron Man  and more .

Captain America 2011

08 Dec 2009

The First Avenger: Captain America is do out in 2011. This is one of those lynch pin movies that is critical to the Avenger movie in the works that stars most of the actors you have seen in the previous Marvel movies like the Hulk and Iron Man.

The Captain America movies is based off of the original marvel comic about Steve Rogers who has through a secret US program enhanced abilities. Called a super soldier Rogers becomes Captain America and since 1941 until 2007 (when Steve Rogers was killed off in Captain America Vol 5), Captain America has been doing battle. After 2007 , Captain America continued with Buckey the Caps sidekick taken over as Captain America . But that was not the end because everything comics has a way of being reborn . It turned out that Rogers was not dead after all . He was just placed in a fixed position in time and space and in the 2009 Marvel comic book series called " Reborn " , Rogers retook his rightful place as Captain America.

The movie summories I have seen are generic and not much more then the good Captain America is a World War 2 etc ..... much of what I had said in the openning paragraph. There has been little news on it except that the director is Joe Johnson . The writers are (in alphabetical order) Jack Kirby , Christopher Markus , Stephen McFeely , and Joe Simon. I have seen some trailers on youtube of the movie but don't know much about their legitamicy since I can not find out much more on the film from legit sources like IMDB and ithe movie websites. So this blog post will have a couple of follow ups in the coming months and years. But one thing is for sure that it will tie into the Iron Man , Hulk and the upcoming Thor movies . Since the Avenger movie is also a go and in preproduction also.
