Rob Zombie fresh of the release of his latest Halloween movie has now set his eyes on remaking the Blob. I don't know what got more negative reaction to fans and critics. His reviews of Halloween 2 (I did not get to see it yet so I will keep my mouth shut until I do) , but some of the reviews I read are brutal to it kindly.) or the News that Rob Zombie is doing the Blob .
Variety reported that Zombie wants to make fresh new start with the series. Something to call distinctly his own based on he 1958 classic. He explains that ;
"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change," Zombie said. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now."
Hhmmmm a Blob with out the Blob. I tell you one thing Zombie is creatively twisted so like it or not the premise of the creature should be at least interesting. I heard critics say that they think this is a huge mistake not only in remaking the film but in reinventing the creature that made the film. Personally I have mixed feelings on it. I guess that is the part of us that like sameness and something that we can look back on as a good memory. The other part is morbidly curious on what the guy is concocting. He has shown himself to be anything conventional on most his films and has attempted in the most part to not only put his stamp on a film but to humanize the monsters/creatures/villains I guess to make a statement or to show the audience the real darkness that lurk in mans and women's ( equal rights and all that ) hearts.
Anyway... Again according to Variety the films funding and support are as follows;
Saperstein, the former Dimension Films president who developed a relationship with Zombie while they worked on "Halloween," said that funding is in place to make an R-rated film that will cost around $30 million. The budget model is similar to that of recent fright fare like "Cloverfield" and "District 9," and they expect to firm a distribution deal before production begins. Genre Co. is in pre-production on the independently financed, Darren Bousman-directed remake "Mother's Day."
Zombie will produce with Genre Co.'s Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten; original "Blob" producer Jack H. Harris; and Judith Parker Harris of Worldwide Entertainment Corp. and Andy Gould.
With of course Rob writing the script . Which he has already begun. Shara Kay and Jeremy Platt as co-producers and David Mandez as Producer. That rounds off allt he head honchos of the movie to be.
We can only wait and see on now what Zombie has in store for us and I am sure that there will be many that from here to then will sound off on how great or how bad of an idea this is. All I say is bring it on Rob. Hey if he bombs out on it it would not be the first or the last remake to do
