Kings epic novel The Stand will become a feature film

06 Feb 2011

I don't know. Unless its a trilogy I can not see this working. I remember reading the Stand when I was a teenager and thinking holy crap this is a large book. Not only was it large it had so many characters and so much going on that I can not possibly fantom how in the world they would cram it in a 2 hour or so movie. Even with a huge budget. If you think about it the mini series that so many remembered falls short of the novel in some areas.

US Torchwood on hold

25 Apr 2010

BBC announced that the deal for a 13 episode serialized remake of the British spinoff series of Dr Who will be not made by Fox.

Source  BBC News

In a statement, BBC Worldwide said both companies had "mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized Torchwood format".

However, the BBC said discussions with other networks were continuing and plans to get the show made for US audiences were still in the pipeline.

This is not good news usually when studios start backing off  it usually means the death of the series all together. To bad other then some of the over exploring of personal relationships it was a great series. And was a hit in the UK with the main character played by John Barrowman being highly popular.  The final mini series Children of the Earth did extremely well here in the US . Which is a puzzle to me why the show was ever canceled and why Fox is bowing out of the production of the series.

For those that do not know Torchwood  was a

'Avatar' Director to Remake '60s Sci-Fi Classic

(Source and complete story at Cinemaspy.com)

It appears the Cameron-Salerno collaboration is going to be a 3-D remake of Fantastic Voyage, the science-fiction classic released in 1966. The original film concerned a small team attempting to save a nearly-assassinated diplomat’s life by being shrunk down and injected into the diplomat’s body. The team used a specialized submersible craft to travel up to the man’s brain to try and eradicate a blood clot.

Fun Fact.

Here is something I found in Wikipedia about the original

Fantastic Voyage is a 1966 science fiction film written by Harry Kleiner, based on a story by Otto Klement andJerome Bixby.Bantam Books obtained the rights for a paperback novelization based on the screenplay and approached Isaac Asimov to write it.Because the novelization was released six months before the movie, many people mistakenly believed Asimov's book had inspired the movie. According to Fred Schodt's The Astro Boy Essays, FOX also approached NBC to get the rights to an Astro Boy episode which had the same premise, but they never contacted the manga artist or credited him in the final product.

Johnny Depp Is Barnabas for Burtons version of ‘Dark Shadows’

09 Dec 2009

Sci Fi Wire reported that Johnny Depp will be playing Barnabas for the old horror soap opera that  began  airing on ABC from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971 called Dark Shadows. And directing it will be Tim Burton. I could not think of two so suited for doing this remake of this soap cult classic.

I remember watching that shows repeats at 4 o'clock just before the 4:30 movie on channel 7 in NY in the 70's . Yea I am aging myself a little there. But I was a kid and usually the 4:30 movie had all those cheesy Japanese monster movies and those classic Universal monster movies that made doing homework at the time a little less painful. But somehow I got hooked on a soap. Well if it had to be one it was at least a one about Vampires and other creatures of the night and underworld. For more info on Dark Shadows I suggest Wikipedia (of course in these matters of film bios and such it is usually accurate and you get more info then any other media ) , Dark shawdows journal online , and Dark Shadows.com.
