Is Godzilla returning to America ?

15 Feb 2010

Back in August of 2009 I came across an articles from Bloody - Disgusting that confirmed  that Legendary Pictures is set to reboot the king of all monsters Godzilla in another attempt to bring the big guy back to America. We all know how the 1998 attempt went. It was a horrid reboot that was not even Godzilla. It was so bad the Japanese renamed it Zilla and there was even a clip in the last Godzilla movie made "Final Wars" where Godzilla fries Zilla. As seen in this video clip. It kind of gives you a clue of what they really thought of that film.

Now is it a bad idea that America will be taking another crack at the Godzilla franchise?  I am not going to say anything. But I will throw some facts into this blog that may have naysayers think twice before opening their mouths about the idea. Legendary Pictures has done real well at keeping to a certain standard with films especially those that have roots in other places such as comics and reboots. Take the Dark Night , Watchmen, 300, and soon to be released Clash of the Titans for examples. All were done extremely well and all with high standards. They also seem to have held true to the nature of those characters . In my opinion you can expect the same  treatment in Godzilla. Another fact that this is not a sequel of the 1998 film (you can sigh a relief) but a reboot and I bet you that Toho will not sign over any rights for film production before making sure that their property is not mutilated as it was with the 1998 version.

So what news has there been since that announcement?  Many many rumors and nothing substantial I am afraid.  However there was one blog I came across at DemocraticUnderground.com entitled  Legendary Pictures Godzilla....by who? (Tarantino?) that confirmed at least that there are talks still on going that everyone involved is now being tight lipped about the project and that a certain director may actually be involved.  After that this is a rumor that is in the discussion stages but they are serious and if there is any news on this you can be sure that it will be posted here as soon as it is announced.  So fans of the big guy can get a little excited but not overaly just yet. As with any film discussions anything can happen even the total abandoning of a project as was the case with Spider Man 4.

News on Godzilla 3D to the Max

On other Godzilla related news while I am on the subject the rumored Godzilla 3D to the Max movie that was do out later this year has some conformation about 2011 or even 2014. There is even a Facebook fan site about it giving at least a sense that the film was not abandoned just really really delayed. The film will be produced and written by the same man that did a previous G film Yoshimitsu Banno (he directed Godzilla vs. Hedorah) .

Who knows when it will be actually be released maybe with this current climate of 3D movies about to burst open to the main stream the film will be forced to forefront . Hmmm who knows maybe the new reboot would be 3D . If you are  the type looking for any news of the movie production you will most likely will see it first on the Facebook fan page or the official wiki (Wikizilla) of the big guy.

Spiderman 4 cancellation is bogus

17 Dec 2009

Iesb.net reported and SCI FI Wire followed the report that Spiderman movie was under threat of cancellation

Sony Updates: SPIDER-MAN 4 Production on Indefinite Hold

(See Iesb,net for full story)

Looks like everyone's friendly neighborhood web slinger has been been placed on indefinite hold said an inside source exclusively to the IESB today.

Apparently, several department heads working on the SPIDER-M4N production were notified of the halt last Thursday. Spidey and friends have some issues that need to be dealt with before production can move forward once again. Oh, and the film is known as SPIDER-M4N within the production offices so take note! Who wants to be the first to start the trending topic on Twitter #SPIDER-M4N?

Rumor: Spider-Man 4 has been shut down!

( See Sci Fi Wire For Full Story )

Is the upcoming fourth Spider-Man in trouble?

First, there was the negative reaction to rumors about the film's new villains (Vulture? Vulturess??).

Now comes a rumor that preproduction on the Sam Raimi movie has been suspended indefinitely, according to IESB.net:

But these stories turned out to be premature and like Sci Fi Wire posted a RUMOR. Turns out that iesb.net was contacted about the rumor and updated their site with this posting on the article.

UPDATE: Sony has contacted us this morning and they are denying the story. The production is on their expected holiday hiatus, but will ramp up again early next year.

Yes, the filmmakers are working on the script, but there is nothing unusual about that at all, productions always are working and tweaking scripts right up until principal photography begins and that is still a few months away.

End of update.

That is how the old rumor mill goes. Sometimes they are right and other times they are not. Now that everything is right in the Spideyverse we can go on with the debate who should be the villain. I think the Vulture is an alright character of choice knowing there are tons of other really cool one like the Lizard would make for a grand story if done right. Marvel always had him as the hard luck human / beast saga .

William Shatner talks Star Trek sequel

11 Dec 2009

shatner_kirk11

Shatner while talking with Jimmy Kimmel , revealed that he had lunch with JJ Abrams and was hinting though not to sure that there may be a part in the upcoming sequel of Star Trek .

If it does it would be a fitting passing the torch from old to new just like Nemoys revised role as the older Spock. But I warn you it is a long way from a done deal and rumors can spiral out of control. Here is an excerpt from Trekmovie.com report on the show and the 2 youtube videos of the interview that is also posted with Trekmovie .

Shatner: Star Trek Movie “Wonderful” + Talks Star Trek Sequel

(source Trekmovie.com )

Shatner talks Trek sequel on Kimmel
Last night Bill Shatner appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live (video below). Bill talked about flying, Jimmy’s appearance on Raw Nerve,  and his wax figure at Madame Tussauds, and then ended talking about the Star Trek sequel. Jimmy asked Bill about reading that he and JJ Abrams were going to meet to talk about the Star Trek sequel. Bill said they did meet for lunch, here is the exchange.

Kimmel: What is going on with Star Trek?

Shatner: I don’t know, will you call JJ for me?

Kimmel: I will call him

Shatner: Please, call him and ask him, in a slightly plaintive note, what are you doing?

Kimmel: Just say I am the captain and it is time for the captain to take charge.

Shatner: I said that, but this maître d’ came over and said "I am the captain."

Kimmel: You didn’t really give me an answer

Shatner: I literally don’t know. Star Trek is a wonderful show. They did a wonderful movie. JJ I think of as a buddy, he is a great director. I am sure when the right time comes, he will make the right decisio
