Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock – Trailer

25 Jan 2012

Dr Who has a new video game coming out that looks absolutely fantastic. With Matt Smith as the Dr and Alex Kingston as River Song as the main characters of this game. What little I can find out on the game play is that you are either one or the other character and you are romping through time and space meeting up with classic and modern Dr Who monsters and villains in a series of challenges. Well that is good enough for me. Sadly it will be one of those exclusive releases that will be released for the PS3 and PS Vita via the PlayStation Network and then shortly after for the PC .I knew I should of went for the PS3 . Oh well what can you do. I am going to have to settle for the PC version of the game when it comes out.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will launch globally, initially on PS3 and PS Vita via the PlayStation Network, in March 2012 with a PC version due shortly after.

Players will be up against the most feared monsters from the Doctor Who universe -- the Cybermen, Daleks, Silurians and the Silence.

Take control of both the Doctor and River Song to unravel the mystery of The Eternity Clock in March 2012. The clock is ticking...

Star Trek Online Free to Play Model Coming Soon

05 Sep 2011

After Perfect World  bought out Cryptic Studios back in May 31st, 2011 it looked like that Star Trek Online would continue as usual . But recently Perfect World announced that Star trek Online , a MMORPG ( massively multiplayer online role-playing game ) will sometime in 2011 have a Free To Play Model (a business model in which a product is offered free of charge while a fee is charged for users to access premium features). The announcement is vague on the date but when the date is set I will post it . Finally the final frontier is the way it was suppose to be  FREE.  Which is for all the rest of us on budgets ( me included ) can really enjoy.

Announcement from Star Trek Online

In a recent Perfect World earnings call, CFO Kelvin Lau stated our intention to adopt a free-to-play business model for Star Trek Online this year and we could not be happier to finally share these exciting plans with you.
Incorporating a free-to-play model into Star Trek Online enables any interested captain to explore the galaxy to his or her heart's delight.
We do have a full announcement, more details regarding free-to-play, a breakdown of exactly what's on offer, a FAQ, and a features matrix all queued up for publish next week. Those familiar with our superhero MMO, the free-to-play Champions Online: Free for All, will recall the solid suite of information we published when we announced that game's free-to-play transition. We'll have similarly robust web pages and boards setup next week for STO. (Kind of like this, for example.)
We're committed to Star Trek Online, we're more experienced from launching Champions Online: Free for All, we're supported by a AAA online games publisher dedicated to putting forth quality Western-styled F2P games, and we can't wait to show you more.

Myst on its way to become a feature film

01 Oct 2010

According to these articles at  Blastr.com, MTV, and Deadline . Myst one of my favorite computer games of all time is going to be a feature film. I still remember the first time I played the game on my old Mac 7100. Then getting the sequel Riven. Anyway enough of memory lane the movie will be made  those that brought you Narnia and the cult hit Donnie Darko.

"Our aim with this project is to stretch the genres it operated within, much like the source material did," said Mysteria Film Group's Adrian Vanderbosch, who is partnering with Mark Johnson (Narnia) and Hunt Lowry (Donnie Darko) for the film.

"It is such an innovative property and by utilizing the novels as our primary resource, we have the opportunity to offer audiences the essence of Myst without being limited only to the famous island of the first game. Our focus has always been on creating an entirely new visual experience driven by engaging characters and an epic narrative."

It should be interesting to see how they manage to put it all together considering it is not an action game and only has a handful of characters. To tell you the truth I think it can be done really well and mostly within the games parameters. I do understand and will forgive if they have to hype it a bit for the action and adrenaline junkies . However I hope they keep it to the more cerebral and visually enticing  epic that  made it one of the best selling games of all time.

Final Fantasy XIII

08 Feb 2010

I remember when FF VII came out for the PS 1. Many many of hours were spent on my couch playing that game. To me that was the ultimate of gaming back in the day. I remembered how incredible the game play, graphics, and the level of detail that was put into that game were.  It was like playing a movie from start to finish. Incredible I thought . How can you top this? Then came VIII , XI , X , XI , XII which I only got to play 3 on that list. They were still enjoyable but nothing like the first.  And then came a host of games that imitated its design. And those games still use that model even till today. Now they are up to XIII and from some of the articles I have read including an interview with director Motomu Toriyama and its producer Yoshinori Kitase with Play (see below for link and partial) with Play Mag about Final Fantasy XIII  which they  give some insite on the design and theme of the popular gaming series and what the future may hold for the next game in that series. The game looks like it will be as popular at least for the short term as the original may have been.

When asked about the sci fi theme in XIII Kitase replied "We don’t really think of it as sticking with one setting or another. When a new Final Fantasy is started we have in mind that we aren’t going to do something the same as last time. We don’t want to repeat the same setting or style. Final Fantasy XII was not very Sci-Fi as you probably know, so we wanted to make XIII more Sci-Fi to make it different. That doesn’t mean though that we’ll do Sci-Fi again with the next game."

When asked about the future of FF games Kitase  again replied . "Well, we have several different games in developmentsimultaneously with Final Fantasy XIV being an MMO type game, but Final Fantasy XIII also has two more games in Agito and Versus, which will be much more action orientated. That offers a great deal more variation."

The game will be released on both PS 3 and Xbox for 59.99 with the only difference that the PS 3 will have only one blue ray disc as opposed to the 3 discs for the Xbox. I could live with that. I remembered the multi disc versions of the others.

As far as reviews go it depends on which one you read. I have not played it yet so I can not tell you but if you look on the GOOGLE page you will get tons of pros and cons about it from various blogs and gaming sites.
