2012 (November 2009)
One thing I love ( well not really just interested in the what ifs of the world ) is end of world prophecies. One that has a nagging and foreboding tone to it is the Mayan prophesy of 2012. I thought many years ago that that would make a great apocalyptic type of movie. Well what you know Sony made one simply called 2012 and has piqued my curiosity.
To be honest it was the commercial ( the current one not the one that is on this post ) that caught my eye . It starts off as an ad for people for a lottery on who will be allowed to survive the coming disaster with a brief description of the 2012 Mayan predictions . Very cleverly done. So I went on the Google hunt for what ever I can find on it. Of course one of the first places I check for validations and info is imbd . This film is being kept very secretive I believe only because on that site you can usually get a more detailed spoiler then the one I found which is this ;
An academic researcher leads a group of people in a fight to counteract the apocalyptic events that were predicted by the ancient Mayan calendar and other historical documents, astronomy, biblical and scientific data. It involves the passage of the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius. It also involves the Destroyer, aka Wormwood, Planet X, Nibiru.
So I went to another dependable resource I use a lot on all preliminary information on just about anything WIKI and came up with a bit more on this film. But not much. Turns out the plot summary is almost the same as IMBD’s. And not much more .
2012 is an upcoming American science fiction disaster film directed by Roland Emmerich. The film has an ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver; the film is expected to be released worldwide on November 13, 2009.
A global cataclysm occurs which leads to the end of the world and has survivors struggling for their lives. The film is inspired by several hypotheses that state that the ancient Mayan predicted a doomsday event will occur sometime around the 2012 northern hemisphere winter solstice.
