Both Caprica and SGU are moving to Tuesdays making way for Friday night WWE’s Smackdown . The move comes of course as SYFY acquires Smackdown which is still a big hit with men from 18 to 34 drawing about and average of 3.5 million per episode. According to the LA Times the deal cost SYFY about 30 million a year.
A deal, which will be announced later this week, further solidifies the growing relationship between NBC Universal and Vince McMahon’s WWE. Syfy already carries the show “NXT,” which is a reality program featuring wannabe wrestlers trying to make it to the big leagues of WWE. NBC Universal’s USA cable channel also carries WWE programming including “WWE Raw.

Caprica and SGU will hit the Tuesday slot . According to Gateworld.com (Everything Stargate and more ) SGU season premier will be Sept 28th and on October 5th it will be followed by Caprica. Also according to a separate article from Alpha Airlock Capricas fate is all up in the air for another season after this one. It is apparent that ratings will decide whether the show lives or goes the way of dino’s. Mostly because most of the actors contracts are set expire in November and gives SYFY a chance to see whether they should renew the series or not.
Though we initially announced the January return of ‘Caprica,’ we still had hopes of finding a way to get the series back on the air sooner,” said Mark Stern, Syfy’s executive vice president of original programming, in a release. “We’ve been able to successfully rework our schedule, and are thrilled to bring the show back during what is traditionally Syfy’s most-watched time of the year. The outcome should also please fans who expressed their wishes for a shorter mid-season hiatus.”
However, there is more to the move than simply finding room on the schedule. Contract options for many of the key actors are set to expire in November after Syfy exercised an extension from August, giving the cable channel until then to decide whether or not to order a second season for the series. “Caprica” received some strong praise from various critics, however, it didn’t score the kind of audiences in the first 10 episodes the cable channel had hoped for.
