The decade between 2000 and 2010 showed a real spark in comic book movies done right. Hollywood finally started to get away from the cartoonish looking comic movies and started down the dark path of the comics with heroes who had real life issues. Batman was no longer cartoonish joke like the series in the 60’s made him. Though the original Batman revision movie done in 1989 tried to go in the right direction by taken the character seriously. The follow ups (sequels) ended up going the wrong way and almost killed the franchise. Even Superman was ending that look with Superman Returns.
Movies like X-Men, Spider Man, Hulk, Iron Man, and the Fantastic Four brought Marvels heroes in the limelight. They also did a good job bringing the comic to life the way they were suppose to. Yea there was some creative licence and liberties on the films but hey this Hollywood. What did you expect?
Hollywood did not stop with Marvel or DC. They tapped comic book universes like Dark Horse and some others to get some really note worthy characters and plots. Some movies were adopted from graphic novels like 300. To me it was a show of respect finally to a part of our culture that was for a long time never really taken seriously by film makers. Of course you have to thank in a big part the invention of computers and those that perfected computer graphics so that all those super human, all those creatures, and all those other things that the creators of comics with their glorious imaginations threw in the pages of the stories so the characters can come to life. Without that I really think we may still be seeing over exaggerated sets and effects that would of fallen short of what we have seen in the pages of comics.
Again there was some real great movies that were made. Some were so memorable that we seen over and over again . Others fell a little short of what we expected. All however are in their own right a testament of what comics bring to our culture. Below is a list of comic book movies that I felt really impacted this past decade. They really were the ones that made an impact on movie goers and spurred on the industry to make more and to reach further into the pool of the comic industry for more and more.
All links for the movies are linked to Wikipidia. I found when it come to descriptions like these it is mostly reliable and I do not have to worry about them taken the page down when the movie becomes older and unpopular.
