Dr Who news and rumors including a message from The Dr and Amy

20 Jul 2010

As the season finale looms just a couple of days away here in the states. With the Dr trapped by every one of his enemies from the beginning of the series to now. And the Tardis about to blow and cause the biggest bang in history that rips the fabric of time and space spelling the end of everything including life the big question is. Will Matt Smith leaving already or is this just sensationalism as usual. Well  following the rabbit hole of tabloid tunnels he may be hanging on for at least one more season or longer. According to a recent BLASTR article British tabloid says Matt Smith plans to leave Doctor Who that quotes a couple of lines from the Sun . Mr Smith is thinking of jumping Tardis for greener pastures of Hollywood. Where all good time lords retire from BBC TV it looks like ( that is just sarcasm for the literal at heart).

The actor is currently filming this year's Christmas special with Karen Gillan, who plays his sidekick Amy Pond, and opera star Katherine Jenkins.

He will then go straight into production on the new series, which will air next year.

But a pal said: "Matt plans to quit after the next series.

"He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons."

Why did Eccleston leave Dr Who

16 Jun 2010

This is one of those curiosities . Why would an actor leave a role that is successful and can further a career ? In the Dr Who universe we have seen them come and go. Matter of fact the series is on actor 11 and if you include the movies Peter Cushing starred in like  Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965) and Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D.(1966) we would be up to twelve (I hope I am not missing any others). So an actor leaving is not a big surprise or of any concern. Sure you get hooked on one or the other. I still remember not really warming up to the actor who replaced Tom Baker but that is something one gets use  to after a while especially after you come to terms that this show is not about an actor it is about the character and the plot. So seeing an article on why Eccleston left on Sci fi Wire was SOOOOO ok  whats new about that ? What was new he thought the show was wrong to put in his words

"I was open-minded but I decided after my experience on the first series that I didn't want to do any more," he said. "I thought if I stay in this job, I'm going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong. ... I think it's more important to be your own man than be successful, so I left."

He however did go on to say that he was proud of the work he did also and does not regret doing it.

"I really feel that, because it kind of broke the mold and it helped to reinvent it," he said. "I'm very proud of it."

Can't really hate on him for being honest. Some roles are not for everyone and not everyone are cut out for their roles or something like that.

Matt Smith is hit as Dr Who

19 Apr 2010

OK so I finally got to see the new Dr Who and the debut of Matt Smith as the Dr and I got to say. I want more.  At first when looking at the pics your first impression was huh? Why replace Tennant ? He was the best Dr ever. Probably will still hold that title for a bit but my first impressions of Matt Smith and writer  Steven Moffat is that they are a hit. It was hard to phantom a replacement for David but BBC and the Whovian powers to be did a fine job with the transition and a better job in the direction of the Dr. The Episode that kicked it off The 11th Hour was brilliant. I kind of like how they changed the Tardis around and the way they explain the magic away.

SYNOPSIS from BBC America

Opening scene form Dr Who

The Doctor has regenerated into a brand new man, but danger strikes before he can even recover. With the TARDIS wrecked, and the sonic screwdriver destroyed, the new Doctor has just twenty minutes to save the whole world - and only Amy Pond to help him.

There are some subtle differences like Amy Pond seems to be a great action hero in her own right a fiery red head with looks and attitude . You can also feel the attraction between the two characters that you felt with Rose and the Dr. Also this Dr already establishes his uniqueness  as a more of head on type of character  . He knows he has a certain power of defeating evil as the closing scene of the 11th Hour showed where he stood in front of an alien about to incinerate the planet and told them to run after they scanned him and saw all the Drs flash backs with every alien he ever met.  You get the sense from that scene that this is going to be the pace and the feel of this character. He also brought some humor and some craziness of old Drs . It might be me but in one scene when he was trying to find what foods he liked I saw a little draw from Tom Baker's impulsiveness .  All in all this is going to be a great series if the premiere is the template of shows to come.

New opening theme

And just for kicks here are all the other ones from every single Dr before Matt Smith all in order. Enjoy !
