Walking Dead 11 or 12 seasons is possible and new companion series is in the works

14 Jun 2014

Good News for Walking Dead Fans. There is plans for the show that will lead it all the way up to 11 or 12 seasons. That is if they are lucky enough to make it that far. And there will also be a companion series that will soon be released. In A PGA panel discussion that had the men that are behind such great series as "The Walking Dead," "True Detective," "Homeland," and "Hannibal" sharing their stories and giving advice to an eager audience. Producer David Alpert was asked about working with existing material . This was his reply.

Source Indiewire

Alpert was asked what it was like working from a pre-existing product.

"I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12...we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we're lucky enough to get there."

If the ratings keep rolling in like they have been, it shouldn't be a problem.

With fan fanatics that drool overevery episode (even when they are eating BBQ slathered ribs) or anything that is WD and a rating of 20+ million an episode it probably would last . Especially on how each season has different story arcs that keep it from going stale. This would put The Walking Dead up there as a contender for the longest lasting Sci FI / Horror series along with Stargate, Doctor Who, and Star Trek.

Now to the tantalizing idea of a spin off. If you are a fan from the graphic novels and comic books you might not be so stoked about it. They are loyalist and love the plot just the way it is. If you are the fans from the TV show and just love anything about the show then you will be wetting your pants at the prospect of a new show.

Official Press Release

AMC announced today that the network is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to its original drama series The Walking Dead, which premiered on AMC in October of 2010. The Walking Dead is currently the #1 show on television among adults 18-49. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are on board as executive producers, with AMC Studios set to produce. The companion series has a target on-air date of 2015.

"Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer," said Charlie Collier, AMC's president and general manager. "We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It's a big world and we can't wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse."

"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe," said Kirkman. "The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."

The rumor is that this series will be based on events in other parts of the US maybe the world . New York , LA , Washington etc.... Details are sketchy from what I cam across on what the plot is going to be about. Just that the show has a green light to be produce and will air in 2015 sometime. I will post updates as they come along on the their progress.

NASA physicist unveil warp-speed craft design

13 Jun 2014

I saw this on a couple of blogging sites and on CNN News on how a NASA physicist in visions what a warped ship may look like if we were to ever build one. His influence was of course Star Trek and the artist Mark Rademaker drew this conceptional design of the warped vehicle. If you noticed and how can you not the design is very much like the USS Enterprise . Matter of fact he named his rendered ship the Enterprise in honor of the legendary iconic ship.

In the CNN report Harold White has been working since 2010 to develop a warp drive that will allow spacecraft to travel at speeds faster than light -- 186,000 miles per second.

White, who heads NASA's Advanced Propulsion Team, spoke about his conceptual starship at a conference last fall. But interest in his project reached a new level this week when he unveiled images of what the craft might look like.

In his speech, White described space warps as faraway galaxies that can bend light around them. They work on the principle of bending space both in front of and behind a spacecraft. This would essentially allow for the empty space behind the craft to expand, both pushing and pulling it forward at the same time. The concept is similar to that of an escalator or moving walkway.

"There's no speed limit on the expansion and contraction of space," White said at the conference. "You can actually find a way to get around what I like to call the 11th commandment: Thou shall not exceed the speed of light.

MGM And WB to reboot Stargate

29 May 2014

One of my favorite shows of all time and one of MGM's biggest hits will be reborn in a trilogy. MGM with WB have announced today (read the press release below) that they will be collaborating on making this a reality.

MGM Press Release News Article

Los Angeles, CA (May 29, 2014) – Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, together with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, are partnering to launch a new feature film trilogy that reimagines the 1994 film Stargate. The announcement was made today by Gary Barber, MGM’s Chairman and CEO. Emmerich, who directed and co-wrote the original film with Devlin, is confirmed to direct and Devlin will produce.

Barber said, “We couldn’t be more excited to once again partner with Roland and Dean, the world-class creators of the original Stargate, to bring their reinvigorated vision of this wildly popular property to audiences of multiple generations.” He added, “Stargate is one of the biggest titles in MGM's vast library, and we look forward to adding this great franchise to our slate."
“The Stargate universe is one that we missed terribly, and we cannot wait to get going on imagining new adventures and situations for the trilogy. This story is very close to our hearts, and getting the chance to revisit this world is in many ways like a long lost child that has found its way back home,” said Emmerich and Devlin.
MGM will be running production on Stargate, with Jonathan Glickman, President, Motion Picture Group overseeing the project on behalf of MGM and Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, overseeing for Warner Bros. Pictures. Worldwide distribution will be handled by Warner Bros. Pictures, with select international territories to be handled by MGM.
Glickman said, “For us at MGM, there was no version of us further developing the Stargate franchise without Roland and Dean at the creative helm. This is their baby, and we cannot wait to bring their reenergized universe to the legions of fans around the world."

Silverman said, “Stargate created an expansive cinematic universe that has engaged fans for two decades.” He added, “Under the guidance of Roland and Dean, these new films will build upon the creativity and popularity of the first film, while delivering an original film-going experience for fans and those new to the franchise.”
The sci-fi film Stargate launched a worldwide phenomenon. At the time of its release, the film set the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend in October and went on to gross nearly $200 million worldwide at the box office.
Emmerich is currently shooting Stonewall, a drama about a young man’s political awakening amid the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York, which sparked a fight for equality and paved the way for the modern gay rights movement. He is also in pre-production on ID Forever Part I and Part II, back-to-back sequels to his hit film, Independence Day.

Devlin is currently in pre-production on Geostorm, his feature directorial debut, which he co-wrote with Paul Guyot and is producing for Warner Bros. with Skydance Pictures’ David Ellison and Dana Goldberg and his Electric Entertainment team of Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan.
