BBC America has a new series that premiers January 14, 2012. It first aired according to what I found out about the series on BBC Three and BBC HD on September 21 , 2011. The premise of the series is about teenager who has the ability to see the dead whose spirits are restless and trying to take over our world. I have included two descriptions about the series . One is a segment from BBC America about the show and the other is from Wikipedia. Both can be seen below. When you combine the two you get a good idea of what the series will be about. Because the series has already been running for a couple of months over in the UK I was interested in the reviews so far . And so so far they have been all on the positive side. There is a couple on TV.com that gives you a general idea of the many that I have come across so far.
Plot Segment taken from BBC America About the Show
“The Fades” is a coming-of-age fantasy drama showcasing the supernatural skills of a reluctant teenager named Paul (as played by Iain De Caestecker, formerly of “Coronation Street”). His best friend, Mac (Daniel Kaluuya, “Johnny English Reborn,” “Skins”), as well as his therapist, are completely stunned by the apocalyptic dreams that he’s been having. His twin sister Anna (Lily Loveless, “Skins”) is also unsympathetic of his socially awkward behavior.
As if things aren’t difficult enough, Paul is seeing the spirits of the dead (known as Fades) all around him. An embittered Fade finds a way to break the barrier between the dead and the living, aiming its vengeance at Paul, Mac and their loved ones.
Soon the fate of humanity rests in the hands of the two best friends, who already have enough trouble getting through the day in one piece, let alone saving the world.
Thorne says of the show: “What makes ‘The Fades’ different is that it is a fantasy show rather than a science fiction show. It’s about fairly ordinary people, none of these people act or behave like they’re superheroes. “The Fades” is about the world itself being an extraordinary thing and how you battle it. This old school fantasy element combined with some pretty original characters – I hope is what will make people want to watch.”
Fades plot description from Wikipedia
The programme centres on an English teenager named Paul who is haunted by apocalyptic dreams that nobody can explain and is able to see spirits of the dead, known as the Fades, all round him. The Fades cannot be seen, smelt, heard or touched by other humans – they are what is left of humans who have died but not been accepted into Heaven. As such, the Fades left on Earth have become embittered and vengeful towards the human race. It is shown in the first episode that the Fades have found a way to become partly human again and regain control of touch within the real world. However, they remain unseen in the world except to those special few like Paul – ‘Angelics’ – who have the ability to perceive the Fades. Paul finds himself pulled into a conflict between the Angelics and the Fades, trying to prevent the Fades from breaking back into the world and destroying the human race.
