Once again Creation Entertainment is bringing Star Trek to Nashville’s Opryland Resorts this weekend (Saturday & Sunday June 9-10, 2012) with some real big names in the ST universe . John Tenuto , John de Lancie (“Q”) , Screenwriter Morgan Gendel, LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Chase Masterson (Leeta of ST:DS9), Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi), George Takei (Sulu of classic Star Trek) , Nichelle Nichols (Uhura of classic Star Trek), and Avery Brooks (Sisko) will be attending this years event .
Last year was a blast and I am hoping to make it this year again. There was so much to do and all the merchants and people involved were fantastic. Plus The Opryland resort is always a treat to visit. Huge is not the word. Anyway I copied the activity list from the schedule listed on Creations site tickets are reasonable especially the general admission .

2011 Star Trek Convention video I took last year. I was only there for a short time and I missed seeing William Shatner but still had a fantastic time.

11:20 am John Tenuto Presentation: PICTURES OF THE FUTURE: RARE PHOTOS FROM THE MAKING OF STAR TREK II AND VI. June 2012 is the 30th anniversary of the premiere Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Please join John Tenuto as he shares almost 100 rare behind the scenes images from Star Trek II and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country including the only known pictures of William Shatner and Ricardo Montalban together on stage for cast/crew photos. Based on four years of research, the images are culled from the University of Iowa’s Nicholas Meyer Paper Collection. The photos were donated to the University by alumnus Nicholas Meyer, the writer and director of Treks II and VI, and he has generously given permission to share these photos with Creation Convention attendees. The presentation will share behind the scene stories of the contributions of the artists who helped make these two of the most popular Trek films.

12:45 pm Screenwriter Morgan Gendel, Hugo-winner for the Star Trek: TNG episode “The Inner Light,” offers new insights into this fan-favorite tale about Picard’s alternate life. 4:30 pm Sandra Piller (songwriter and widow of beloved Star Trek writer/producer, Michael Piller) will be appearing on stage with her group, Nashville Writer’s Round on Saturday. The group which features 3-4 songwriters including Jane Bach (award-winning hit songwriter for Tammy Wynette, Reba McEntire and JoDee Messina) will be sharing stories about their songs and performing both radio hits and songs that haven’t been recorded yet. In addition, Sandra will have a table in the Vendors room to sell her CDs and some of Michael’s personal Star Trek collection.

Before the Internet, the Official Star Trek Fan Club was the lifeline of information for fans through its publications, the Official Star Trek Magazine and the Star Trek Communicator. Former publisher and fan club president Dan Madsen has given sociology professor John Tenuto permission to cull the archives of these magazines to show some rare photos from the world of Star Trek. You’ll see great images such as the only known photo of Gene Roddenberry and George Lucas together and many wonderful behind the scenes photos from the making of the Star Trek television shows and films. Also included are vintage merchandise ads and a history of how Dan Madsen created the fan club and magazine.
