Torchwood American Style

Sci Fi Wire is reporting on an article from Hollywood Reporter  that Fox is about to take over and make an American version of the hit TV British series Torchwood.  Which is not a bad deal considering that Fox is repeating the same line of reasoning  that they did when they tried to remake Dr Who  (the 8th Dr to be exact) a while back. In other words keep it like it was. I was one of the few at the time that thought it was a great rendition. But it never got off the ground because I think it was the timing of it all. Dr Who was a cult here in the states and no where as popular as it is now. Torchwood is a good move in my opinion. As long as they stay focused and faithful to the story line and feel. Which according to the Hollywood reporter they are.

Unlike U.S. adaptations that have gone awry, Torchwoodfans can take comfort that the original producing team is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Davies’ producing partner Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show’s first season) and Jane Tranter (another BBC vet, now exec VP programming and production at BBC Worldwide Prods. in the U.S.).

Also, some of the current cast—most likely John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness—might star if Fox orders Torchwood to pilot.

Another key point of the article that is interesting is that Fox will take the plot global so that the team will travel all over the world.  And yet another curious side note that was asked by Sci Fi Wire was will there be an American Dr Who since this is a spin off series to start off with. I am going to say no. But I will say this. You may see Fox bring Dr Who into story from time to time with the current actor or maybe since Tennant is in Hollywood now in his own series there they may sneak him in as the 10th Dr revived. Who knows (excuse the pun) he is after all a time lord and this is the world of sci fi. Doubtfully you will see another American Dr considering Fox was loyal to the original to begin with. Interesting to muse over such possibilities.
