Good News for Walking Dead Fans. There is plans for the show that will lead it all the way up to 11 or 12 seasons. That is if they are lucky enough to make it that far. And there will also be a companion series that will soon be released. In A PGA panel discussion that had the men that are behind such great series as “The Walking Dead,” “True Detective,” “Homeland,” and “Hannibal” sharing their stories and giving advice to an eager audience. Producer David Alpert was asked about working with existing material . This was his reply.

Alpert was asked what it was like working from a pre-existing product.
“I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12…we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we’re lucky enough to get there.”
If the ratings keep rolling in like they have been, it shouldn’t be a problem.
With fan fanatics that drool overevery episode (even when they are eating BBQ slathered ribs) or anything that is WD and a rating of 20+ million an episode it probably would last . Especially on how each season has different story arcs that keep it from going stale. This would put The Walking Dead up there as a contender for the longest lasting Sci FI / Horror series along with Stargate, Doctor Who, and Star Trek.
Now to the tantalizing idea of a spin off. If you are a fan from the graphic novels and comic books you might not be so stoked about it. They are loyalist and love the plot just the way it is. If you are the fans from the TV show and just love anything about the show then you will be wetting your pants at the prospect of a new show.
AMC announced today that the network is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to its original drama series The Walking Dead, which premiered on AMC in October of 2010. The Walking Dead is currently the #1 show on television among adults 18-49. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are on board as executive producers, with AMC Studios set to produce. The companion series has a target on-air date of 2015.
“Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager. “We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”
“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” said Kirkman. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”
The rumor is that this series will be based on events in other parts of the US maybe the world . New York , LA , Washington etc…. Details are sketchy from what I cam across on what the plot is going to be about. Just that the show has a green light to be produce and will air in 2015 sometime. I will post updates as they come along on the their progress.
